Hastelloy C276 is a wrought nickel-chromium-molybdenum-tungsten alloy which displays a remarkable corrosion resistance in a very wide range of processing environments. It displays excellent resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, stress corrosion cracking and oxidising atmospheres up to 1040°C.
The high molybdenum content of Hastelloy C276 provides the alloy with its excellent resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion. Since the alloy’s low carbon content means Hastelloy C276 is resistant to the formation of grain boundary precipitates in the heat-affected zone, Hastelloy C276 can maintain its unique corrosion resistance in the as-welded condition.
Hastelloy C276 is selected for resistance to wet chlorine gas, hypo-chlorites and many other aggressive chemicals. It also offers exceptional resistance to strong solutions of oxidising salts such as ferric and cupric chlorides.
